Knettishall Memorial
The granite monument features the group motto – "Fortress for Freedom" and depicts a B-17 breaking the chains of tyranny. It was designed by member John J. Ryan and dedicated in May 1986 by the 388th Bomb Group Association and the people of Coney Weston, Barningham, Market Weston, Hopton and other nearby villages and towns. It was extended in May 2011 with the addition of two wing stones, upon which are engraved the names of each serviceman who died whilst in the service of the 388th. "In freedom they lived ... for freedom they died"
The location of the memorial is the original highway entrance into the Headquarters site. The 388th memorial sits at a crossroads at what was the main entrance to Station 136 in Knettishall, England. This is located just to the south of the main airfield site of which remains the perimeter track, a substantial part of the main runway and one T2 hangar. The memorial stands on the very end of the concrete roadway leading into the site. Immediately beyond the Memorial the concrete road has been lifted and the area is now a wooded glade.
The Memorial is accessible to the public at any time free of charge.

The 388th Collection At Hillside Farm
Located on the grounds of Hillside Farm near the English village of Market Weston, the 388th Collection is dedicated to the 3,000-plus American airmen who served at Station 136 during World War II. The Collection is located just down the road from the old base, housed in a former Station 136 nissen hut.
Our hosts at Hillside Farm, and keepers of the Collection, are David and Deborah Sarson. Local English residents assist with the displays and special open days, and are always on hand when veterans and their families visit.
Many 388th Bomb Group Association members have donated their memorabilia, photos, uniforms, and equipment to the collection, where the items are displayed in sincere honor to the men who fought from Station 136.
